Pisa

Our last day in Italy was a travel day and the best way for us to get to southern France to meet Seth and Alli was through Pisa, so we figured we'd spend a few hours there. Uncle Dan and Cara's parents dropped us off in Siena at the train station. Since we got to the train station earlier than we needed to, we actually found an earlier train to hop on and got to Pisa much earlier than expected. We had a long time to kill in Pisa, so we checked our luggage at the train station, then began walking around town.

Looking back, Pisa is definitely a town you can do in 3-4 hours tops. We had almost 12 hours, but we tried to make the best of it. First things first, we went to the piazza where the Leaning Tower of Pisa is located. The tower is actually a bell tower and theres a church and baptistery in the same plaza. We wanted to walk up to the top of the tower, but it cost 15 euros, which is about $22 per person. That was a little too much so we decided to pass on it. We got some lunch and laid around in the grass surrounding the church for a few hours, napped, read and just enjoyed the area. Because of Pisa's location between the sea on one side and a mountain range on the other, the weather there is really nice all the time. I think it stayed between 70-75 degrees the whole day. After falling asleep in the courtyard, we decided to go walk around the markets a little to try and kill time until our bus ride. We then found a little pizzeria and had dinner. We shared brushetta and a pizza with bacon and onions on it. After dinner we went back to the train station, collected our luggage, waited a bit longer and got on the bus to Avignon.
