Barcelona

We arrived in Barcelona around 5:30am after another long bus ride and we eventually found a way to the airport to meet up with Jose.  When we arrived to the airport, we saw that his flight had been delayed for 3 hours, so we paid for the day of wifi, posted some blog entries and Cara slept for a few hours while we waited. Finally, Jose arrived and we were off to the city.

Our place, Albergue Studio Hostel, was situated in a quiet neighborhood on the north side of Barcelona, but it was less than 100 meters away from a metro stop, so it was very easy to get to the city center from there. Our room was a 3 person room, so we didn’t have to share with anyone else and the bathroom was right next to our room.

We started off our day at Placa Catalunya, which is the main square of Barcelona, and walked along La Rambla, stopping at a market and seeing a few street performers along the way. We went up to the top of the Estatua de Colon (Christopher Columbus Statue) Tower and got a great few of the city from there.

After this we walked around some more, stopped at a church, Santa Maria del Pi, and a candy store called Happy Pills, where they let you fill up different sized prescription-looking bottles with candy. Finally we were starving and had our only bad meal of the trip so far at a place called Restaurant Egipte. We should have known better than to eat in the touristy area along La Rambla, but our hunger got the better of us. After dinner, we took the metro back to our area and stopped at the neighborhood bar near our hostel. The bartender happened to be Colombian (just like Jose) and so he ended up giving us some free shots and some good advice on what to do the next day.
